How to be saved: only believe Christ paid for your sins. Done. Salvation cannot be lost, even if you stop believing.


1 John 5 - Exegesis

Introduction

Highly experimental translation of 1 John 5 with an emphasis of showing when which members of the Godhead are in focus by using red/green/blue. When all three are mention, text is highlight with a special gradient that uses all three colours. Curly brackets are for words that aren't normally translated but have no way of being displayed in English.




1 John 5:1 All who believe that Jesus is the Christ (being) birthed out of {of} God, and all that love that birth, love (Him) and which (are) birthed out of Him (as well).

1 John 5:1 Πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ Χριστὸς ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ γεγέννηται, καὶ πᾶς ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν γεννήσαντα ἀγαπᾷ καὶ τὸν γεγεννημένον ἐξ αὐτοῦ.

1 John 5:2 In this (we) know that (the) loving (of) the sons of God, whenever of God we love and the commandments of Him (we) keep

1 John 5:2 ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἀγαπῶμεν τὰ τέκνα τοῦ θεοῦ, ὅταν τὸν θεὸν ἀγαπῶμεν καὶ τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ ποιῶμεν.

This is in reference to God's impersonal love: we too are to love ALL of God's sons (souls) just as He does (Genesis 1:26). It's obviously inhuman to think like (Isaiah 55:8-9) that since we always want to champion misery to 'someone who is bad', but we often forget we're all bad (Mark 10:18). This kind of thinking of course is only possible through 1 John 1:9, hence "keeping the commandments" which requires being refilled, because you can zip out at any time. And then it's right back to hating or being disrespectful to others through your own sin nature.

"Little children of God" makes no sense, and the majority of English translations persist that bizarre translation. Personally I always thought it weird reading "little children" everywhere when even as a kid I knew that translation was off.

1 John 5:3 For THIS is the love of God, that the commandments of Him (are) kept, and the commandments of Him are not burdensome to us

1 John 5:3 αὕτη γάρ ἐστιν ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ θεοῦ, ἵνα τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ τηρῶμεν路 καὶ αἱ ἐντολαὶ αὐτοῦ βαρεῖαι οὐκ εἰσίν,

All English translations seem to remove: αὕτη, εἰσίν, and ἐστιν, anyone with a brain will see that they're quite important to the emphasis and context. I'm not sure if I correctly understood the meaning correctly, but I will come back and fix it if I figure something else out. Regardless, they SHOULD be translated and not ignored!!!

1 John 5:4 That all who are birthed out of {of} God conquer the world, and this is the victory: the conquering (of) the world (from) the believing (of) ours

1 John 5:4 ὅτι πᾶν τὸ γεγεννημένον ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ νικᾷ τὸν κόσμον路 καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ νίκη ἡ νικήσασα τὸν κόσμον, ἡ πίστις ἡμῶν.

Again there's emphasis on our believing and nothing else, for nothing else we can do to conquer the world, any of our works or actions are menstral rags to God (Isaiah 64:6). This (also) seems to nod back towards Revelation 2:26-28, for the conqueror also only gets through BY believing with nothing else.

1 John 5:5 But who is (it) that conquers the world? Not if they don't believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God

1 John 5:5 τίς ἐστιν ὁ νικῶν τὸν κόσμον εἰ μὴ ὁ πιστεύων ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ;

1 John 5:6 This is He who came by agency (of) water and blood, Jesus Christ, not only by water alone but within the water and within the blood and the Spirit is the one (who) witnesses that the Spirit is the truth.

1 John 5:6 οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ ἐλθὼν δι᾽ ὕδατος καὶ αἵματος, Ἰησοῦς Χριστός路 οὐκ ἐν τῷ ὕδατι μόνον ἀλλ᾽ ἐν τῷ ὕδατι καὶ ἐν τῷ αἵματι路 καὶ τὸ πνεῦμά ἐστιν τὸ μαρτυροῦν, ὅτι τὸ πνεῦμά ἐστιν ἡ ἀλήθεια.

This is one of the major verses of interest, as it refers to the Father as the water, which is probably the real tie-back to John 3:5 and not (literal) water.

1 John 5:7 Because three WE ARE who witness

1 John 5:7 ὅτι τρεῖς εἰσι[ν] οἱ μαρτυροῦντες,

"εἰσιν" has a 'movable nu' [ν] so I've changed it to εἰσι[ν] to display that, which changes the grammar to "they are", which is probably a reference to I AM THAT I AM (אֶֽהְיֶ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶֽהְיֶ֑ה), (饜饜饜饜 饜饜饜 饜饜饜饜), but plural.

οἱ is plural nominative case against εἰσιν, therefore it's probably best translating it to 'who' because it's the Godhead that is witnessing (as in legal witnesses). A more conventional translation might be "that three are the witnesses", but then you've omitted εἰσιν! It's unusual wordplay but the Bible uses a lot of that: both humans and machines (AI learning) tend to omit the words with the wordplay and ignore them entirely.

This verse has been infamously messed with in the original language texts to add garbage that shouldn't be present and also detracts from the theme of 1 John 5 entirely (including swapping 'the blood' to 'the word', which breaks the consistency of the three very specific terms: water / blood / spirit).

1 John 5:8 The Spirit (Holy Spirit), and the water (the Father), and the blood (the Son), and the three into/unify the (like) one WE ARE.

1 John 5:8 τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ τὸ αἷμα, καὶ οἱ τρεῖς εἰς τὸ ἕν εἰσι[ν].

The structure of this verse is actually very complicated and hard to properly translate (at least for me) into what English can support in our syntax of "to be". εἰς shouldn't be "into" because God isn't three INTO or INSIDE one being, therefore I chose 'unify' instead. "The one THEY ARE" is a bit of a mouthful, but as of now I don't know of a better way of translating that.

1 John 5:9 If we receive the witness of mankind, the witness of God is greater: because this is the witness of God, because He has witnessed (in) regards to the Son of His

1 John 5:9 εἰ τὴν μαρτυρίαν τῶν ἀνθρώπων λαμβάνομεν, ἡ μαρτυρία τοῦ θεοῦ μείζων ἐστίν, ὅτι αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ μαρτυρία τοῦ θεοῦ, ὅτι μεμαρτύρηκεν περὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ.

1 John 5:10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the witness within himself. Whoever does not believe (the?) God makes himself a liar because no belief (has been put) into the testimony who witnesses of God concerning the Son of His

1 John 5:11 And this is the testimony: that eternal life given (to) us from God, and this life is in His Son [I AM].

1 John 5:11 καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ μαρτυρία, ὅτι ζωὴν αἰώνιον ἔδωκεν ἡμῖν ὁ θεός, καὶ αὕτη ἡ ζωὴ ἐν τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ ἐστιν.

1 John 5:12 Whoever has the Son has life: anyone (who) does not have the Son of God does not have life.

1 John 5:12ἔχων τὸν υἱὸν ἔχει τὴν ζωήν路 ὁ μὴ ἔχων τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ τὴν ζωὴν οὐκ ἔχει.

1 John 5:13 This I've written (to) you in order that (you) know because of believing in the name of the Son of God (you) have eternal life

1 John 5:13 Ταῦτα ἔγραψα ὑμῖν ἵνα εἰδῆτε ὅτι ζωὴν ἔχετε αἰώνιον, τοῖς πιστεύουσιν εἰς τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ.

This apparently seems to be a verse to clarify that there's a difference between switching between life & death (being online vs offline), and salvation as a result of believing.

1 John 5:14 And THIS is the open rapport we have towards Him, that if anything we ask (towards) the will of His, (He) hears us

1 John 5:14 καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ παρρησία ἣν ἔχομεν πρὸς αὐτόν, ὅτι ἐάν τι αἰτώμεθα κατὰ τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ ἀκούει ἡμῶν.

1 John 5:15 and if (we) know that (He) hears us, whatever if (we) ask, (we) know that (we) have the request which (was) asked of Him.

1 John 5:15 καὶ ἐὰν οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἀκούει ἡμῶν ὃ ἐὰν αἰτώμεθα, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἔχομεν τὰ αἰτήματα ἃ ᾐτήκαμεν ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ.

1 John 5:16 If someone sees his brother sinning a sin NOT towards death, also ask to give him life, the sin not towards death. There (is) a sin towards death: in regards to that, do not talk (in your prayers) in order to request it.

1 John 5:16 ἐάν τις ἴδῃ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ἁμαρτάνοντα ἁμαρτίαν μὴ πρὸς θάνατον, αἰτήσει, καὶ δώσει αὐτῷ ζωήν, τοῖς ἁμαρτάνουσιν μὴ πρὸς θάνατον. ἔστιν ἁμαρτία πρὸς θάνατον路 οὐ περὶ ἐκείνης λέγω ἵνα ἐρωτήσῃ.

This is in relation to that we are to pray if we see another Christian being offline, to BECOME online; nothing we can do as it's 100% God (and unfortunately many die without ever doing a 180).

1 John 5:17 all unrighteousness is sin, and there (is) no sin (not ultimately) leading towards death

1 John 5:17 πᾶσα ἀδικία ἁμαρτία ἐστίν, καὶ ἔστιν ἁμαρτία οὐ πρὸς θάνατον.

1 John 5:18 (We) know that anyone who (is) birthed out from {of} God does not sin, except he (that is) birthed out from {of} God keeps himself and the evil one does not touch them

1 John 5:18 Οἴδαμεν ὅτι πᾶς ὁ γεγεννημένος ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐχ ἁμαρτάνει, ἀλλ᾽ ὁ γεννηθεὶς ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ τηρεῖ αὐτόν, καὶ ὁ πονηρὸς οὐχ ἅπτεται αὐτοῦ.

That is to say 'we do not sin' only when we're refilled, that's what's meant with "keeps himself" (1 John 1:9). NOT that this will be constant because we trip and can continue sinning again at any moment's notice (1 John 1:8, 1 John 1:10), and therefore we're not under demon influence as long as we're refilled. As soon as you zip out (no longer "keep yourself"), you have the potential to be under demon influence (1 Corinthians 10:21).

1 John 5:19 (We) know that we (are) out from {of} God , and the whole world (is) laying (in bed with) the evil one.

1 John 5:19 οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐσμεν, καὶ ὁ κόσμος ὅλος ἐν τῷ πονηρῷ κεῖται.

1 John 5:20 And (we) know that the Son of God has come and given us (His) mind in order that (we) come to learn the truth, and we are in the truth in the Son of His Jesus Christ. He is the true God

1 John 5:20 οἴδαμεν δὲ ὅτι ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ ἥκει, καὶ δέδωκεν ἡμῖν διάνοιαν ἵνα γινώσκομεν τὸν ἀληθινόν路 καὶ ἐσμὲν ἐν τῷ ἀληθινῷ, ἐν τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ Ἰησοῦ Χριστῷ. οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ ἀληθινὸς θεὸς καὶ ζωὴ αἰώνιος.

This is also feeding into Philippians 2:5, it appears the majority of English translations obscured the correct translation of this, despite some actually getting Philippians 2:5 correct. Hooray for inconsistent English translations.

1 John 5:21 Dear sons, protect yourselves from the (practice of) idolatry

1 John 5:21 Τεκνία, φυλάξατε ἑαυτὰ ἀπὸ τῶν εἰδώλων

"韦蔚魏谓委伪" of course isn't meant as literal children (of course there are some in Christendom who fall asleep and think it is 馃檮), it was a kind of slang, probably the closest our English has would be "my dears".
