Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
The ending of Mark does not appear in earlier manuscripts, and also doesn't make any sense. God would not violate common sense; picking up snakes and drinking poison will kill you. A KJV-onlyist might say that the passage is harmless, but it carries two problems with it
The KJV-Only counter-argument is that these removed passages actually should be there, even if they're completely nonsensical and don't exist in earlier manuscripts because 'they've been in usage for hundreds of years'. They then conveniently forget that it's a two-way street and the KJV has some text omitted of its own due to flaws in the Byzantine manuscripts, like the ending of 1 Peter 2:2:
1 Peter 2:2 ὡς ἀρτιγέννητα βρέφη τὸ λογικὸν ἄδολον γάλα ἐπιποθήσατε, ἵνα ἐν αὐτῷ αὐξηθῆτε εἰς σωτηρίαν
1 Peter 2:2 (KJV) As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby [missing text goes here]
And unlike picking up snakes and drinking poison, the ending of 1 Peter 2:2 is very important because it ties back to the theme of James 1 and 2 (whereby you're 'rescuing' or 'rehabilitating' your thinking with Christ's thinking via Bible Doctrine). You could say that the ending of 1 Peter 2:2 and James 1:21 would PREVENT you from falling victim to KJV-Onlyism if you actually studied it.
James 1:21 διὸ ἀποθέμενοι πᾶσαν ῥυπαρίαν καὶ περισσείαν κακίας ἐν πραΰτητι δέξασθε τὸν ἔμφυτον λόγον τὸν δυνάμενον σῶσαι τὰς ψυχὰς ὑμῶν.
The majority of Christianity reverses this into meaning literal salvation though rather than saving you from your own thinking. Neither of these are salvation verses.
This is a pretty obviously bad translation (and many other translations copy the KJV on this), where it says the Holy Spirit (in us) lusts towards envy. Envy is a sin and it predictably it contradicts what the Greek ACTUALLY says.
James 4:5 (KJV) Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The Spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
James 4:5 ἢ δοκεῖτε ὅτι κενῶς ἡ γραφὴ λέγει, πρὸς φθόνον ἐπιποθεῖ τὸ πνεῦμα ὃ κατῴκισεν ἐν ἡμῖν;
If the Holy Spirit is lusting to envy, that's a sin, and God chooses not to sin.
Upon the initial printings of the AV1611, there was a printing error accidentally changing 'he' to 'she', this has persisted in most modernizations of what people use in the "King James Version", especially the ones they claim are perfect and from God.
Ruth 3:15 (KJV) Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
Ruth 3:15 וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הָ֠בִי הַמִּטְפַּ֧חַת אֲשֶׁר־עָלַ֛יִךְ וְאֶֽחֳזִי־בָ֖הּ וַתֹּ֣אחֶז בָּ֑הּ וַיָּ֤מָד שֵׁשׁ־שְׂעֹרִים֙ וַיָּ֣שֶׁת עָלֶ֔יהָ וַיָּבֹ֖א הָעִֽיר׃
There's three issues with the infamous verse in Isaiah 14:12.
The KJV conceals "morning star" with "Lucifer", and then also mistranslates rising dawn as morning. In a funny twist of fate it's the Catholic Douay-Rheims and Latin Vulgate itself which gets slightly closer by putting "rise in the morning" but still not entirely accurate.
Isaiah 14:12 (KJV) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Isaiah 14:12 (Douay-Rheims) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, who didst rise in the morning? how art thou fallen to the earth, that didst wound the nations?
And the verse in Revelation where Christ is referred to the bright morning star (aka son of the morning, aka upgrade):
Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent my angel to testify these things to you in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Revelation 22:16 Ἐγὼ Ἰησοῦς ἔπεμψα τὸν ἄγγελόν μου μαρτυρῆσαι ὑμῖν ταῦτα ἐπὶ ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις. ἐγώ εἰμι ἡ ῥίζα καὶ τὸ γένος Δαυίδ, ὁ ἀστὴρ ὁ λαμπρὸς ὁ πρωϊνός
Therefore Christ becomes the upgrade and surpasses the dawn to the morning, and also does the opposite for the nations (Satan weakens and Christ is justice). So then, a more accurate translation of Isaiah 14:12 (considering we now know Satan is 'a' morning star and is NOT bright and is NOT the son of the morning and weakens the nations) would be:
Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven morning star, son of the rising dawn (Satan); being cast down to earth, which weakened the nations
Isaiah 14:12 אֵ֛יךְ נָפַ֥לְתָּ מִשָּׁמַ֖יִם הֵילֵ֣ל בֶּן־שָׁ֑חַר נִגְדַּ֣עְתָּ לָאָ֔רֶץ חוֹלֵ֖שׁ עַל־גּוֹיִֽם׃
Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant whom I uphold: my chosen one (Jesus Christ) in whom I delight, I will put my Spirit on Him and He will bring justice to the nations.
Isaiah 42:1 הֵ֤ן עַבְדִּי֙ אֶתְמָךְ־בּ֔וֹ בְּחִירִ֖י רָצְתָ֣ה נַפְשִׁ֑י נָתַ֤תִּי רוּחִי֙ עָלָ֔יו מִשְׁפָּ֖ט לַגּוֹיִ֥ם יוֹצִֽיא׃
And then it would appear Satan's now-defunct status as a morning star is then gifted to one of us after the Church Age dispensation (I'm not sure if this is a singular believer or many believers, but it would 'appear' to be singular as far as I can tell for now):
Revelation 2:26-28 And he that overcomes and keeps my works to the end, to him will I give power over the nations and he will rule them with a rod of iron as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star.
Jesus = bright morning star: son of the MORNING), brings justice to the nations
Satan = morning star: son of the RISING DAWN), weakens the nations
Conqueror (believer in Revelation) = morning star, power over the nations (gifted from Christ)
There's really no KJV-only argument against this: that 'Lucifer' needs to correctly be translated as morning star to be cross compared to the other morning stars (Christ being the BRIGHT morning star who then gifts Satan's abandoned morning star status to one of us), in a now defunct KJV-only website, they go into great lengths to explain why Isaiah 14:12 is refering to Satan (which is true it does, BUT NOT AS 'LUCIFER'), but they are completely blind as to WHY it's Satan and WHY it's mistranslated. So they can't read it themselves, and the critics who think it's not Satan also can't read.
Two big things that get lost in translation are the poetic meter (which is virtualized based upon how many syllables are used in the original languages), and then using the DIFFERENCES and reordering in the original language texts such as in the gospels.
Denominations are usually too dumb to realize the differences of the gospels are to extract more meaning than what can be done with a single verse (some will say it's the interpretation of each author rather than being very and extremely deliberate -- if we're to assume EVERY WORD is God's, then EVERY WORD, EVERY DIFFERENCE and placement has meaning).
One of the promises God has made is to preserve EVERY WORD of the Bible: if that promise ever gets broken, then time would have to end in a mistrial and the Angelic Conflict would be concluded.
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again not of perishable seed, but immortal through the Word of God which lives and dwells
1 Peter 1:23 ἀναγεγεννημένοι οὐκ ἐκ σπορᾶς φθαρτῆς, ἀλλὰ ἀφθάρτου, διὰ λόγου ζῶντος θεοῦ καὶ μένοντος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.
T1 Matthew 4:4 but He answered saying: "it's written: man (should) not live by bread alone, but on every taught-word coming out of the mouth of God."
T1 Matthew 4:4 ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν, γέγραπται· οὐκ ἐπ᾽ ἄρτῳ μόνῳ ζήσεται ὁ ἄνθρωπος, ἀλλ᾽ ἐπὶ παντὶ ῥήματι ἐκπορευομένῳ διὰ στόματος θεοῦ.
This of course means that it's in Satan's best interest to try and get rid of the original manuscripts. God's response to this is to preserve the Bible through multiple copies and by proxy through teamwork of believers (and actually sometimes unbelievers because believers tend to hate the Bible just like KJV-onlyists). This does mean though that each 'copy' is imperfect so all of the manuscripts and contexts need to be lined up so that you can proof it all and rebuild and eradicate any errors.
With computers and the fact we've basically probably discovered all of the original manuscripts we'll ever find (unless there's more scrolls hiding out somewhere, who knows) -- this means we can view the COMPLETE Bible and rapidly cross compare and study it to a level not known to any other generation before us. That is absolutely devastating to Satan since the plan to eradicate all copies is prety much off the table due to technology. Therefore movements like KJV-onlyism are the failover for Satan to discourage reading the original language texts, and prior Satan was using the Catholic Church to conceal the original language texts they were sitting on for as long as possible. In other words, in all instances Satan always uses believers against believers (and the Bible itself).
1 Corinthians 12:26 And if one member suffers all members suffer, or one member be honoured all the members rejoice.
1 Corinthians 12:26 καὶ εἴτε πάσχει ἓν μέλος, συνπάσχει πάντα τὰ μέλη· εἴτε δοξάζεται μέλος, συνχαίρει πάντα τὰ μέλη.
Of course using believers against believers harms ALL of us, and this is why it sweetens the deal for Satan.
Because the King James Version was translated by many many different people using extremely crude tools and technology, some of which that even held different beliefs (some were Anglican, some were Calvinists, some were probably Catholics, some were Atheists...), this shows and causes a "split personality" in many verses.
Here we can see all of the verses in the KJV where it says "holy spirit", now the Greek conjugation does vary (because English conjugation is dramatically more simple) and sometimes the word order changes, but the meaning is still there and the same Greek words are always used which is 'pneuma hagios' or any variants thereof. The order is swapped because English is the odd language out where we reversed everything.
Luke 11:13 (KJV) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Luke 11:13 εἰ οὖν ὑμεῖς πονηροὶ ὑπάρχοντες οἴδατε δόματα ἀγαθὰ διδόναι τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν, πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὁ πατὴρ ὁ ἐξ οὐρανοῦ δώσει πνεῦμα ἅγιον τοῖς αἰτοῦσιν αὐτόν.
Ephesians 4:30 (KJV) And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:30 καὶ μὴ λυπεῖτε τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον τοῦ θεοῦ, ἐν ᾧ ἐσφραγίσθητε εἰς ἡμέραν ἀπολυτρώσεως.
1 Thessalonians 4:8 (KJV) He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
1 Thessalonians 4:8 τοιγαροῦν ὁ ἀθετῶν οὐκ ἄνθρωπον ἀθετεῖ ἀλλὰ τὸν θεὸν τὸν καὶ διδόντα τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ τὸ ἅγιον εἰς ὑμᾶς.
With the same underlying Greek words, we can see somehow, that the KJV has changed it to "holy ghost" when such a meaning was never implied by the original language text since it's the same being used for holy spirit.
Matthew 1:18 (KJV) Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 1:18 Τοῦ δὲ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἡ γένεσις οὕτως ἦν. μνηστευθείσης τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ Μαρίας τῷ Ἰωσήφ, πρὶν ἢ συνελθεῖν αὐτοὺς εὑρέθη ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχουσα ἐκ πνεύματος ἁγίου.
Mark 1:8 (KJV) I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Mark 1:8 ἐγὼ ἐβάπτισα ὑμᾶς ὕδατι, αὐτὸς δὲ βαπτίσει ὑμᾶς ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ.
Mark 12:36 (KJV) For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Mark 12:36 αὐτὸς Δαυεὶδ εἶπεν ἐν τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἁγίῳ· εἶπεν ὁ κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου· κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου.
So how did we get 'ghost'? This is a terrible translation for pneuma and given the original language text it never should have been used.
The next big issue is that the English word "hell" is used to overwrite many different original Greek and Hebrew words that actually refer to different things. As far as the Bible is concerned there is no blanket "hell". For instance, the lake of fire doesn't exist yet (which is different from "hell"), and what most people associate with hell is actually being described with the loan word "Hades" (although no relation to Greek mythology in this instance, the Bible is using the available vocabulary for the time it was written).
For purposes of going through the argument I've compiled a list of all verses using "hell" below (in both the new and old testaments) as well as a table at the bottom showing which verses use what words. The one exception is 1 Corinthians 15:55 as this verse has been modified at one point, so depending on which original language source you use, it may add hades or thanate. A separate outline has also been done for this (including addressing the pro-KJV-only argument against it).
Matthew 5:22 (KJV) But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Mark 9:45 (KJV) And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Habakkuk 2:5 (KJV) Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

One deviation that the KJV does is two-fold: it basis its version of 1 Corinthians 15:55 on newer manuscripts that use ᾍδη in place of θάνατε, but also deviates by calling hades (ᾍδη) the "grave" instead of its usual translation of hell. By that logic it's not consistent against verses that actually use ᾍδη such as luke 16:23.
1 Corinthians 15:55 (KJV) O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1 Corinthians 15:55 (YLT) where, O Death, thy sting? where, O Hades, thy victory?
1 Corinthians 15:55 (Byzantine) Ποῦ σου, Θάνατε, τὸ κέντρον; Ποῦ σου, ᾍδη, τὸ νῖκος;
1 Corinthians 15:55 (Westcott-Hort) ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ νῖκος; ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ κέντρον;
1 Corinthians 15:55 (Tischendorf) ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ νῖκος; ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ κέντρον;
And here we can see that the KJV actually matches "grave" with the appropriate underlying Greek word (μνημείου), unlike in 1 Corinthians 15:55 (ᾍδη):
John 12:17 (KJV) The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
John 12:17 ἐμαρτύρει οὖν ὁ ὄχλος ὁ ὢν μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ὅτι τὸν Λάζαρον ἐφώνησεν ἐκ τοῦ μνημείου καὶ ἤγειρεν αὐτὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν.
Here's a table outlining all of the different words that the KJV blankets under "hell":

Hades ᾅδης |
Tartarus ταρταρώσας |
Thanatos θάνατε |

Sometimes the translations are obviously WEIRD and inappropriate. It's painfully obvious.
1 Peter 1:14 (KJV) As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1 Peter 1:14 ὡς τέκνα ὑπακοῆς, μὴ συσχηματιζόμενοι ταῖς πρότερον ἐν τῇ ἀγνοίᾳ ὑμῶν ἐπιθυμίαις,
Matthew 18:6 (KJV) But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Matthew 18:6 ὃς δ᾽ ἂν σκανδαλίσῃ ἕνα τῶν μικρῶν τούτων τῶν πιστευόντων εἰς ἐμέ, συμφέρει αὐτῷ ἵνα κρεμασθῇ μύλος ὀνικὸς περὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ καταποντισθῇ ἐν τῷ πελάγει τῆς θαλάσσης.
In a verse that's actually referring to children, we'll see that the Greek changes from teknion to mikron. What teknion means when spoken to the congregation is "my dears" or "my darlings", it was an affectionate term, not mean to be literal children. Translations should probably reflect this rather than translating it literally when the same treatment is done elsewhere.
I'm including the Douay-Rheims as it suffers many of the same problems as the AV1611 since (surprise) both were written in a very similar time frame and suffer from similar 16th/17th century problems.
Psalm 90:13 (Douay-Rheims) Thou shalt walk upon the asp and the basilisk: and thou shalt trample under foot the lion and the dragon.
Isaiah 11:8 (KJV) And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den
Isaiah 34:7 (KJV) And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.
The original language texts always refer to natural fauna or in the case of the Greek in Revelation, using vocabulary from the time period to describe something. The Bible is always to be interpreted from when the time it was written because God wasn't going to throw in futuristic languages or vocabulary. But now we have a sitaution where the King James Bible has all of this English-specific vocabulary which atheists look at and laugh, and Christians scramble around trying to make up excuses because they're also trying to say these ENGLISH translations are inspired. I was shocked too when I first seen it in the KJV and Douay-Rheims; then I proceeded to wonder when the Beholders and Owlbears were going to be mentioned next.
My point is, regardless of whatever circular arguments KJV-onlyists want to make, the vocabuary is BAD and isn't appropriate for modern audiences. We could also use the argument "if God made the AV1611 inspired" why didn't he magically motivate the translators to use different vocabulary in foresight?", otherwise it's like God is shooting Himself in the foot to look stupid.
Revelation 12:7 (KJV) And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
While the Bible is using "drakon" (much like Hades), neither of these are actually referring to their Greek mythological counterparts, they're just being piggybacked. Therefore I'm not really in favour of having the English "dragon", since it's a metaphor: the verse should just use DRAKON in the transliterated form. There's not going to be a literal dragon creature. If I were to re-translate Revelation 12:7 it would look something like this instead:
Revelation 12:7 And war took place in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the drakon and the drakon fought with his angels (demons)
Isaiah 40:22 (KJV) It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in
Isaiah 40:22 הַיֹּשֵׁב֙ עַל־ח֣וּג הָאָ֔רֶץ וְיֹשְׁבֶ֖יהָ כַּחֲגָבִ֑ים הַנּוֹטֶ֤ה כַדֹּק֙ שָׁמַ֔יִם וַיִּמְתָּחֵ֥ם כָּאֹ֖הֶל לָשָֽׁבֶת׃
In this verse in Isaiah it's referring to a sphere and not a circle (later on there's actually a mention of mirages which wouldn't be possible if the earth was a 'circle' of course). There's no excuse for that mistranslation.
In a Midsummer Night's Dream, 'Sphere' is used in conjunction with the moon, so there was no reason why the AV1611 translators couldn't have correctly translated this verse.
There's another casuality in all of this and that's James Stuart also known as King James VI & I, the actual king. Despite being one of the most prolific authors of the period (even Shakespeare used some of his writings as inspiration), very few people have actually read his works and make all of these insane character assassinations and assumptions.
First his name is applied to the translation (when it wasn't originally), then his name is applied to the movement, all the while he's being bounced back and forth between atheists and christians who don't even bother to read his writings and make claims that he can't defend because he's, you know, dead. Atheists (including James Randi, of all people) may claim he was a drunkard, incompetent, stupid, unrealistic, sometimes mock few snippets of his writings etc. Then other groups of Christians will associate James with the KJV-only movement and we have perfect character assassination.
James was actually one of the most solid believers around (especially for the time period when you had a lot of weird movements). He was extremely proficient in the original languages, got salvation right (believe + 0, no works), made his own translations of the Bible, and even performed wordplay in the Greek. In his work "Basilikon Doron", "basilikon" is a play at that you can either be a ROYAL king or a SNAKE king (basileus being snake in the greek, which yeah some KJV-onlyists will double back and say that's what basilisk is from but why bother using basilisk which is now associated to a mythical creature rather than the modern SNAKE?). Anyways, there's assumed wordplay but if you don't read Greek (like KJV-onlyists) it'll go completely over your head.
Another bit of trivia, King James mentioned in his counterblaste to tobacco (after making a funny little joke using the apocrypha, where tobit smoked the fish), the issues with SECOND HAND smoking. Some of this medical rationalizations were a product of their time (the four humours), but he was still 100% spot on about second hand smoke. He also warned that people were using tobacco as a "cure all" remedy, because they said it would heal you. Obviously this wasn't the case and people were rapidly smoking themselves into the grave. Not too unlike the aforementioned pastor who let that snake bite him, and he predictably died.
One thing KJV-onlyists are very good at are parrotting the correct doctrines (because they can't proof them in the Greek & Hebrew, so they HAD to come from somewhere). Correct doctrines such as:
When I was a teenager I didn't realize how bad KJV-onlyism was because most of them could still repeat doctrines that were correct (albeit even if they couldn't "prove" any of them), but it looks like Satan has a new angle for KJV-onlyism. We're now seeing KJV-onlyists who are repeating works salvation! Not only are they urging everyone to ignore the original texts (don't read them they're spooky, the holy GHOST will come out and surprise you), but now they're promoting a false gospel. This is EXACTLY what Satan wants in the church age dispensation to kill THREE BIRDS with one stone:
